The Otago Peninsula stretches east along the southern edge of Dunedin harbour and the wildlife there is internationally renowned . As Sean and Jo were at work we decided to take a guided one hour cruise on the Monarch to see some rare birds in their natural habitat including some royal albatross breeding there .We saw one penguin with binoculars and many sea lions and fur seals the coast at the base of a lighthouse and as well some royal albatros in flight.
When we came back “home” around 5pm we could use the computer as ours while waiting for an other delicious meal before having the great pleasure to go and visit the Otago settlers museum established in 1898 . Of course Sean knew everything and apparently everyone in the portrait’s gallery is part of his inner family and it was fascinating to understand how this city did prosper. We were even allowed in the storage rooms with all sorts of treasures from genuine furniture to genuine clothes .We could see as well the exhibition of a great photographer : Steven Jaquiery, illustrator Editor at the Otago Daily Times , who happened to be Jo’s chidren’s father.
