We had the full afternoon consecrated to Angkor Vat, the most executed religious building ever conceived. Its vast moats, the bas -relief galleries and exterior carving make it the most renowned temple which is today the symbol at the very heart of the Khmer people pride, the symbol of their culture depicted on the state flag. Happily for us Pol Pot understood the importance of Angkor Vat as a totem and never allowed the temples to be destroyed .Even if the Buddhist shrines were erase and most of the monks murdered “his cadres in the bitterest of ironies were driving the country’s starving citizens to aspire towards a new Angkorian Ages”! We own Suryavarman II and its workers ( it tooks 40 years to complete the holy city ) a real architectural marvel.
