Rabbit Island

Monday , as Kep was still very busy , following advices , we took a boat for Rabbit Island, a tiny island 20 minutes away from Kep’s coast and that was the very best thing to do .
We stayed at the first huts offered for 5 dollars a night when we disembarked in the warm waters and I simply adore my stay . It was like being in the Thai Secret Island but a lot better even as this Rabbit Island is very tiny . 3 or 4 families run modest guest houses along a sandy beach . No water, no toilet, just a mattress and a mosquito net . You could wash yourself with bucket in the outdoor toilet but there is no point as the water there is sea water anyway so your 3 daily swims are enough to keep you fresh and clean. Snooze or read in a hammock, swim in clean quiet bay, walk along the palm fringed beach , eat delicious food would it be squids, chicken ,shrimps or grilled fish served on top of your rice , drinking fresh beer, meet few other people , talk a bit , take pictures , smile to locals , enjoy generator’s light for 2 hours at night and be plunged in darkness and silence by 9pm : all this was simply paradise to me. Jean Michel knew I would have love to stay there even on my own for the rest of the month but I didn’t beg for an extra night as I see, as he does, time flying by ! Still I didn’t have Enough of it and it is now
an other place where I HAVE TO COME BACK and this quickly enough as the Rabbit Island has been sold and soon, in about 5 years time , a big hotel and a casino will have replaced this idyllic silent and humble place . Who wants to come with me next sprimg ? Happiness guarentee !
