Geant tree: the Kauri tree

Time to leave Northland after seeing wonderful geant kauri The biggest one is called Te Matua Ngahere " father of the forests" It is over 50 meters tall . Those trees are considered beeing around 2000 years old ! Needless to say they are treated as sacred and treated as lords of the wood ( Tana Mahuta, in Maori). Some trunks are so wide that they can as this one become staircases when they fall!

After a last night in a lovely B§B in Dargaville . The Deutch lady married a neo Zealander but the house was very European indeed and I felt at home sharing their meal and enjoying a evening by the fireplace while they were watching Coronation Street sipping camomille .

Remaining on the highway 1 I had no problem this time to fly above Auckland to start my 2 weeks in the south of the north ! First destination : Coromandel and its peninsula !
