Not only a thermal town but a skying station Hanmer Springd is a tiny village full of holydays homes, hotels and motels . I heard there are only 400 all the year around residents. Not many backpackers in this posh little town but chic restaurants, bars, massages parlours and boutiques . My motel's room at the Alpine Lodge Motel , 3 times the price of my usual rooms, was at least spacious and had a TV . I went to the Springs and soak for an hour and choose not to go back the following day , so crowded and noisy I found them. It is a beautiful week end , 26° and all Christchurch seem to have an appointment here in the minerals waters when I am in search of peace and silence .
