Service and "money"

I met this man in the resort. He came and talk to me because he couldn’t understand why I was working in such paradise. He is 58 and a very happy kiwi businessman. Happy to have made a "little fortune"did he said, "serving those who have the least." He saw that many relatively poor Maoris were living in the little houses the colons first built on quite a bit of land as they used to play cricket in their garden! As they live as a clan they end up now living many generations on top of each other so he had the idea to offer them big garages that in fact are organised as a home with 3 or 4 bed spaces, a shower and a kitchenette. For a garage they do not need planning permission, so of course they are very tempted by those big sheds sold for 100000 NZ dollars (some 60000 euros) which in fact cost him a third of it to be put up. It is a way for them to be able to keep children grand children and great grand children on the site! He saw it as a great way to feed his own “I” while taking care of others as well, the key WE

The work world is evolving fast around here but nevertheless some truths remain true. I red this week about a guy named Ralph Siu who combine eastern philosophy and modern management.

His guides for “work planning” and “work operation” include those sayings (You are going to love this Rod!)

° The bird hunting the locust is unaware of the hawk hunting him

( never be complacent )

° In shallows waters, shrimps make fun of dragons (know your territory)

° Don’t try to catch two frogs with one hand (set priority, feel flexible)

° Give the birds room to fly (empower your people)

° Do not insult the crocodile before you have crossed the river

(timing and judgement are everything)

° It is better to travel with a sick jackass than carry the wood alone

(delegate)

°Do not throw a stone at a mouse and break the precious vase (focus and channel anger)

° It is not the last blow at the axe that fells the tree (anticipate and deal with problems early)

° The great executive not only brings home the bacon but also the applesauce (work hard but make time for the sweets)

Some nice stuff to ponder on!
