Fraser Island

Sue offered to drive us to Rainbow Beach where we were to spend 2 nights in a motel to offer us the opportunity to visit Fraser island , the world 's largest sand island , a place of exceptional beauty . The sand surprisingly supports fresh water lake ( you see here ann just getting out of the Mc Kenzie lake where the silica sand is so fine that it looks as sand powder ). The crystal clear creeks are such that you first think there is no water !They call it the " silent stream " !! A famous 75 miles beach is flanked by stiking coloured sand cliffs . The highest dunes are 240 meters. But the sand was able not only to support those fresh water lakes but as well tall rains forest trees are found on that island. It is absolutely beautiful to travel that beach in a 4 wheels bus and then later to witness it from the sky . We had a great day. and it was moving to see the Maheno a big hospital boat which came ashore in 1935 as a silent ghost on the beach . We had a wonderful day.
