Ils marchent à la voile ou à la rame. Ne naviguent pas de nuit. Les touristes en famille les louent aujourd'hui pour de lentes remontées, pour aller d'une île à l'autre, pour descendre d'Assouan jusqu'à Kom Ombo ... Les dahabyyas sont ces bateaux à voile (ou à la rame très anciens. Il y en avait déjà du temps des pharaons . Beaucoup plus élaborés ce sont les bateaux des riches . les Rolls Royce du coin. Il y a à Louxor des centaines de fellucas mais seulement une dizaine de dahabiyyas . Elles sont habitées à plein temps et peuvent aussi servir de "charters" luxueux . J'ai été invitée à diner, accompagnée de Richard, sur l'une d'entre elles, propriété d'un français diplomate qui passe à Louxor la moitié de l'année et y reçoit à bord le monde entier !
