Ken Domon Museum

Domon Ken (1909-1990) est une enfant du pays. C'est aussi un photographe réputé pour ses photographies de temples et d'architectures sacrées ainsi que pour la vision qu'il laisse du Japon d'après guerre , les enfants des rues, les prostituées, les victimes d'Hiroshima . Quand il a été fait citoyen d'honneur de la ville en 1974 après avoir reçu de nombreux prix internationaux , il a choisi d'offrir à sa ville toute son oeuvre . En réponse à cette offre la ville lui a construit un musée . Le seul au monde ,paraît-il à n'être dédié qu'à un seul photographe , où sont exposées ses clichés remarquables série après série . Le musée est superbe d'architecture , construit sur les bords de la rivière Mogami . Ses amis en ont dessiné le jardin et laissé pour l'embellir encore quelques sculptures remarquables elles aussi .

Ken Domon was born in Sakata in 1909 When he became the first honorary citizen of his town in 1974 he declared he woild like to oresent his hometown with all his work . In reply to thos the Sakaya City decided to built the Ken Domon Memorial Hall and completes the work in 1983 in Mount Iimori Park lying southwest of the city some steps away from the new University , near the beautiful forest . THere is there a magnifiscent pond and a great view on the Mount Chokaï calles as well the Moubnt Dewa Fuji. The architect was Taniguchi and he received himself a price for this astonishing work in 94. Ken's friends presented the hall with their own work , one designing the garden((MrTeshigawara the head of Sogetsu school of flowers arrangement) Kamekura a graphis designer offering the nameplate, the posters and the tickets , an other one ( Nogushi) sending a sculpture . There are 70000 works stored there now in this museum which is the sole in the world dedicated to an unique individual .
