Pukupa.....
"Pukupa pitjanaAnanguku Ngurakutu" : Welcome to Aboriginal Land
This is the age old greeting , visitors receive when they go to Uluru , the welcoming and the warning sign as well . Here you are on sacred land . here you shouldn't take pictures, you should feel the power of our ancestors ; here you shouldn't climb because our rock is alive and sacred and climbing for fun would be alien to our culture . For the Aborigene, Uluru which has been part of their sacred sites and their homeland for tens of thousands of years should be respected for what it is , the mother of it all . Kuniya living right inside there since the beginnings . The Anangu have learnt from their grandmothers who had learnt from their grandmothers the relation between plants animals nature and man . They do not like very much the way we treat the Earth ...and they prefer their myths to our scientific explanations .
Glen had explained it all when we were going there, the first of hundreds of tourists , to hold the best table with the best view on Uluru . The diner would be quickly prepared ( a delicious chicken curry and rice) and we would have a sunset party right there while others would take only an aperitif ! We would be there having a feast when the sun would embrace THE rock . So did we . Eve, if you have seen hubdreds of pictures , even if you know the hight( 348m) of that mountain buried in the sand dunes and the perimeter 6 miles rounds , you are not prpared for the majesty and the power of this gigantic boulder in the middle of nowhere , for this huge sandstone hills pushed up here by earth movements over 500 millions years ago . Its magnifiscence has to be seen to be beleived .
Anna our english friend is here sitting on the table waiting for the sun to set ! But ....
The sun set was not as bright as it can often be as , as you can see , the skies were a bit cloudy but we did have a wonderful time anyway and felt quite humbled by the whole experience !
