| Samuel de Champlain est né à Brouage, dans l'ancienne province de Saintonge en France (aujourd'hui Charente-Maritime), entre 1567 et 1580 est mort à Québec (Nouvelle-France, dite Canada) le 25 décembre 1635. Il fut tout à la fois un navigateur, cartographe, soldat, explorateur, géographe, commandant et chroniqueur français. Cette statue commémore le 300ème anniversaire de son voyage sur la rivière d'Ottawa. |
