Boulders

Entre Dunedin et Tmaru nous nous sommes arrêtés sur la plage de Moeraki où nous avons pu admirer les Moeraki Boulders , de nombreux blocs de pierre dont certains atteignent 4 m de diamètre, sur la plage Il y a une explication scientifique qui voudrait que ce soient des bulles rocheuses crées il y a 4 millions d’années par un ancien volcan . Les Maoris ont une explication plus poétique. La pirogue des dieux appelée waka atua accosta sur cette plage après un long périple à travers l’Océan . Les paniers à provision des dieux ont été jetés sur la plage et ont donné naissnce à ces fameux rochers !

Beetween Dunedin et Tamaru we did stop to see the Moreraki Boulders , Scientist believe the boulders were not washed up onto the beach but eroded from the mudstone cliffs behind . The Maoris do believe that their Gods’s boats were rocked ashore after a long crossing through the Ocean and that the God’s food's baskets were washed ashore and that is what it is !!!!Whatever it is interesting to look at as it has now exposed a fascinating internal network of veins . I sat there for a while and it was as a mystical experience to contemplate their age ( about 4 millions years scientists say !)
