Back in Akaroa

I am back in Akaroa where everything seems to be so idyllic and sweet .The weather is soft with a light mist due to the heat. I came with the local bus and so heard a little more of the story about those 51 French and 6 German who arrived in august 1840 ready to implant their flag on their land! Well a storm delayed them for 3days in a near by bay. It does not seem much , 3 days but here it was too much and when they arrived in their dreamland bay it was too late as the Union Jack’s flag was floating already . Imagine their deception! Some of them decided to go to Tahiti as they were offered to. Most of them stayed

And that is why to day the tourists find still here a little bit of the French charm. Cheese and wine! And lovely little original cottages covered with rose’s bushes stand where they were built besides a chattering stream .Tiny narrow street. A very old library and a new Cinema! Even a Theatre. But families mainly come to see or swim with the smallest and rarest dolphins, the Hector Dolphins , who live in the bay . Of course there are as well wonderful walks to do in the reserves on the peaks around. So everyone seem to find here what he is looking for . I surely do
